Sentence Constructions:- The First Step in Essay Writing.

Many students have difficulties in writing Composition. If we were to analyse, an essay is made up of paragraphs, and paragraphs are made up of sentences.

Chinese Character - > Words -> Sentences -> Paragraphs -> Composition.

So the first step of mastering Composition is of course learning how to construct sentences.

Level 1: Sentences with no grammatical error
Level 2: Sentences with range of vocabulary
Level 3: Sentences with profound structures.

In constructing sentences, inevitably one needs to apply 'connectors', just like in English. Hence, it is equally important to equip ourselves with a range of connectors for effective sentence constructions. Below are some examples of connectors.

1. Cause and Effects

2. Twist

3. Concurrent Actions

4. Successive (One action followed by another)

5. Gradual Progression

6. Choices

7. Hypothetical 

8. Criterion (Setting the criteria)
